Govt. accepted the IMF’s condition to increase petrol prices

Washington: Finance Minister Muftah Ismail has hinted at an increase in the prices of petroleum products.

Finance Minister Muftah Ismail met with the IMF Executive Board in Washington to discuss

the seventh review of the bailout package for Pakistan.

Govt. accepted the IMF’s condition to increase petrol prices and end these subsidies.

Later, addressing a function, Muftah Ismail said that the IMF officials had insisted on not giving subsidies on petrol.

The Finance Minister said that we have also agreed with the IMF to reduce

these subsidies as the government cannot afford these subsidies.


It should be noted that in 2019, Pakistan had agreed to borrow 6 billion from the IMF in 3 years,

of which 3 billion has received so far.
